Cathedrals of Ice for The New Yorker’s Photo Booth
In February, I had the chance to visit the ice caves at Apostle Islands National Lakeshore in Northern Wisconsin during a trip with my Dad. I’m so pleased that the picture essay landed on the New Yorker’s photo booth blog where it looks so nice. Special thanks to picture editor Siobhan Bohnacker!

Telling the Story
My friend Matt Pearl, a television reporter in Atlanta and an all-around wonderful person, started a really great blog and podcast where he writes and talks with storytellers in the journalism world today. I like that he doesn’t narrow his scope to just one area of journalism. He’s talking to reporters, photographers and bloggers involved with TV, newspapers and the web. It’s a great resource if you’re interested in learning more about how people approach storytelling. I talked with Matt about my recent work at camp which you can check out here.

New Yorker’s Instagram
Hi all- I’m really excited to be guest hosting the New Yorker’s Instagram feed this week with iPhone images from Camp Lakey Gap that I took over the course of two weeks in July. There will be a mix of images from a week of 4-10 year old high-functioning kids with autism and a week of adults with autism. I hope you’ll check it out!

Dr. Gilmer for This American Life
This American Life has a great episode this week about the intertwined path of two doctors (both coincidentally with the last name Gilmer). I got to take this portrait of Dr. Benjamin Gilmer for their website at his clinic on Cane Creek Road just outside of Asheville. His office is actually just down the road from Jeremy and Amanda, the Cane Creek Valley farmers I followed for a growing season back in 2009. It was neat listening to the episode having met some of the people and visited some of the places in the story. Really grateful for the opportunity to help in a small way with this story – thank you This American Life. I’m a big fan.

The Image, Deconstructed and camp
The Image, Deconstructed is one of my favorite photography resources and I’m very excited that my Autism Camp work is featured this week along with an interview on the story behind the project. I’m honored to take part. A big thank you to Ross Taylor, Logan Mock-Bunting and the rest of the TID team- they are amazing photographers and people and I really appreciate all the great work they’re doing for the photo community.

In other news, I have a show coming up in the AAAC gallery in the River Arts District here in Asheville. The show is going up April 9th and will be on view the entire month. I’m going to show two bodies of personal work: one from my wanderings in New Orleans and Wisconsin and the other will be a selection of my autism camp diptychs. Lots to be done.

Obama in North Carolina
Photos from the President’s bus tour through North Carolina Monday. We traveled through Asheville, Marion, Boone and Wilkesboro before ending in Greensboro. Great day!
